A California divorce (called a "dissolution of marriage" in California) is a public action in open court with messy details available to the public. Divorce mediation provides confidential settlement negotiations in comfortable offices. Unlike divorce arbitration or litigation, no agreements are final until both parties agree. The entire divorce, or modification of an existing court order, is completed without clients ever going to court. The average cost of a mediated divorce is less than a typical retainer to a single attorney. When considering a California divorce, mediation makes sense.
